Block Paving, Tarmac, Concrete and Slabs
Choosing a driveway style and design to make your home stand out
Sooner or later most homeowners will look to stamp a bit of their individualism and personality on their homes. This could be redecorating your home or it could even be remodelling and extending your home. There are many different ways in which you can alter your home to suit your needs or desires, as well as this there are many creative and individual home improvements you can make too.
One such home improvement is getting a new driveway; older driveways used to be plain slabs or poured on concrete. Not only were these pretty drab and unattractive but they were prone to breaking down over the years with concrete chipping and cracking and slabs breaking over time also.
Fortunately there are now many new methods and designs to get an attractive driveway which will last many years. There are new materials now that look great and a lot of houses are getting their driveway done so you don’t want to be the one person who lets the neighbourhood down with a rundown driveway.
The new materials that can be used are block paving using a variety of coloured bricks, these are laid out in interesting patterns that can make sure your driveway is truly unique. Another favourite is coloured cement like material that can be treated with a special coating to make it more resistant. The colour of the mixture looks like terracotta and can have mock stones etched into them by the driveway layer. Whilst these driveways need regular maintenance of applying the protective varnish every few years it is still one of the more weatherproof and durable driveway designs.
Tarmac is a favourite in the UK due to it being relatively cheap and can be brightened up with coloured stones or a block paving border to liven your driveway up a bit. Some people opt for the gravel or loose stone driveway as it not only looks appealing but has the added bonus of being a great home security measure.
As with any work being done on your home you need to make sure that you hire reputable businesses that have done work in your area before. All too many times we hear about cowboy builders and driveways are especially prone to dodgy builders. Driveways need a lot of preparation and work to go into them as if they are laid incorrectly they could sink or break up in a matter of weeks.
If your driveway requires repairing or you are looking at new driveways then check online for reputable builders as well as reputable trades people in your area who may be able to help you with double glazing, extensions or new kitchens
