You are entitled to claim compensation for any accident or injury which is caused by negligence on the part of someone else or their property. Slips and trips can happen anywhere, and at any time – in supermarkets, at work, pathways, and restaurants, and there are many personal injury lawyers out there waiting to work with you towards the compensation you deserve.

There are laws in place to protect the public and impose charges/fines on the people responsible for maintain and running public places, to ensure the safety of anyone who uses them. The laws apply to employers as well as privately owned establishments/land, and of course to the local councils who are responsible for maintaining the roads and public pathways/pavement. Slips, trips and falls are simple accidents which can have long lasting effects, such as time off work and physical impairments. If you slip over a faulty paving slab in a street, you could end up with a broken limb or sever bruising, or even concussion. This could mean up to several weeks off work, and if your company does not offer very much in the way of sick pay, you could find yourself in a worrying financial position. Compensation payouts not only award money for the initial pain and suffering caused by the accident, but they can include damages which can cover for loss of earnings, medical costs/treatment fees and repairs to any clothing/equipment you may have been wearing/using at the time.

If you have suffered a trip, slip or fall then there are a few steps you should take to help with your claim. Where possible, you should photograph the offending area, as this will best highlight the circumstances surrounding your injury. You should make sure you take down the contact details of any witnesses, who either saw your specific accident happen or who have seen the defective area in person. If anyone else has suffered a personal injury from the same source/situation the you should make sure you have their contact details, as they will be able to back up any evidence you provide. Finally you should make sure that you have reported the accident to the relevant personnel, whether at work to your manager or to the council if the injury happened in a public space.

It can be very easy to feel foolish or irresponsible when you have suffered a personal injury, and many incidents go unreported as a result. It is important to be aware that you are perfectly entitled to seek compensation, and in fact encouraged to, if only to highlight the problem to the relevant people to make sure no one else suffers the same fate.

Claiming is a simple process, and with just a small initial amount of effort you can get the ball rolling with your accident claim. Many companies offer a free initial consultation service with a view to embarking on a no win, no fee compensation claim. There really is nothing to lose, and everything to gain. If you are unfortunate enough to have suffered a personal injury due to negligence on the part of a private company, public organisation or governing body, you should seek advice from a personal injury specialist who will help you to recover the compensation you deserve.

If extra space is needed for the home, a log cabin is an attractive and practical way to answer the problem. Log cabins are ideal as a home office, a gym, for housing Jacuzzi’s and saunas or as a playhouse for the children.

The size and style of your log cabin can be dependent on your budget. One way to make your budget go further is to use a log cabin kit and assemble the log cabin yourself. Most log cabin kits come with comprehensive assembly instructions, and with assistance from friends and family armed with tools, such as: a hammer, drill, spirit level, and a screwdriver, it can be a challenging and rewarding experience for everyone involved.

However, for some people, just the thought of assembling a log cabin kit is enough to give them a headache: so the next best option is to hire help though your log cabin kit company or from local trades’ people.

Once you know your budget, the next step will be deciding what type of log cabin kit to purchase. Log cabin kits come in different packages: some are, handcrafted, and made from whole logs, whereas other log cabin kits are made from kiln-dried logs that are factory milled. Consider the quality and quantity of the wood in the log cabin kit: if your log cabin is to be used for twelve months of the year, you will need thicker logs than if your log cabin was for summertime usage. There are different shapes of logs to choose from, and a common choice is the ‘D’ log, which is round on the outside and flat on the inside and gives a horizontal wood-panelling look within. If you are concerned about the environment, check the logs are from substantially managed forests. Deliberate over the floor plans to determine what will work for you, what type of timber you want to use, e.g. pine or cedar, what insulation you need and your utility requirements.

The typical contents of a log cabin kit contain cut logs for a specific log cabin plan. Each log has a predetermined location in the wall of the cabin, with door and window openings already cut into the appropriate logs. Most log cabin kit companies offer a number of log cabin kit options that contain additional components: cladding, insulation, screws, corner panels, window frames and windows, doors frames and doors, steel brackets, anchor bolts, nuts and washes, studding, roofing and flooring. What isn’t included is: foundations, wiring, plumbing, heating, roof tiles, and guttering. Because each log cabin kit company structure their kit differently, it makes it difficult to compare costs between the companies, unless you can do an item-by-item comparison of the contents of the different log cabin kits.

Before log cabin kits can be assembled, a well-prepared level base that is the same size as the log cabin floor will be required to ensure a long lasting installation. A variety of materials can create a solid base, such as: concrete or paving slabs positioned on hardcore, and it should be 20-50mm above the ground level. Building regulations will need to be considered, for example, if your log cabin is to be located next to a boundary line. Some log cabins require planning permission and your log cabin kit company maybe able to provide advice on this matter. However if there are doubts, it is best to contact your local planning authority before work is commenced.

Log cabin kits do take time to assemble, but the finished product will be something you and your family can enjoy and appreciate for many years to come.

Today’s society is increasingly risk adverse, as health and safety regulations restrict all kinds of activities, such as pruning the village flower patch and using a ladder in a bookshop. Lawyers take on cases where people trip over paving slabs or hurt their thumb typing at a work computer. The message seems to be that although life can be dangerous, you can at least ensure that you don’t suffer financially. Insurance companies have taken this message to heart and companies in Britain offer all kinds of deals. The UK insurance market is the third largest in the world, measured by total premiums paid.

It is easy to get caught up in this brand of risk management, but is insurance really a worthwhile investment? If you are not a high-flying model then leg insurance is probably not going to represent value for money. Hurricane investment may be worth considering in certain parts of America, but is hardly necessity in a quiet Cotswold village. Acts of God can and will happen, but they are rare catastrophes, which no one can prevent. The recent floods in Britain were momentous, but unusual. They also served as a timely warning against building on land liable to flooding.

Although some types of insurance are a modern innovation, the basic concept has a long and illustrious history. Insurance-type schemes existed in Ancient Greek and Roman societies and it is the repetitive nature of certain undesirable events, like fire and theft, which continues to make some types of insurance so popular.

Home insurance in the uk is a common and often necessary purchase. Some letting agencies will not let a property unless a tenant takes out home content insurance. Mortgage borrowers are required by lenders to have building insurance. In 2004, 77% of households purchased home contents insurance and 64% purchased home structure insurance (figures adapted from ABI).

There is a wide range of home insurance policies on the market, offering either content insurance, building cover or both. Many insure against crime, fire and accidental damage. The cost of home insurance depends on a number of factors, for example location, particularly if flooding seems a possibility, and the rate of burglary in the area. It is also possible to reduce premiums by taking out only a small amount of cover. This may be sensible if you are setting up home and do not have many valuable possessions.

However, insurers also recognize the problem of ‘moral hazard’, which means that if you are insured then you may behave in a more careless manner. In terms of home insurance this may mean that people invest less money in alarm systems and strong locks. To protect itself from this risk, the industry may include clauses designed to combat this – perhaps rewarding homeowners who fit an alarm or higher than standard locks.

The proverbial saying that ‘home is a man’s castle’ suggests you should have at least a respectable defence system.

Building sheds could be a daunting task, and one which you might like to pass on to a professional. However, this is also a task, which if you could successfully accomplish, is certain to present a lasting impression for all. Therefore, before you buy your shed and shed building materials, devote some time to this guide and be equipped with pertinent information needed before you start on the construction of your shed.

Chart out your requirements

If building a shed is one of the jobs on your to do list, chances are that like other tasks, there is a specific requirement for accomplishing it. So before you start, precisely define the need. It could be for, say, storing agricultural yield, or maybe for simple household storage. Whatever your shed will be used for, the purpose definition would logically help work out the desired size of the shed. The second required component at this stage would be the available space. So with these two sides of the equation available, it should be possible to zero down on the practically possible shed size. However, before moving forward, do check the construction limits. Also while finalising on this aspect, visualise the constructed shed (of the worked out size) in proportion with the backyard and ask yourself some fundamental questions, such as: will the shed look right in the garden; is the door opening wide enough, in the correct place; how many windows, if any, do you need?

The look and appeal

If sheds are more than a junk repository for you, this aspect is definitely serious. There are a number of options in the sheds types and you have the authority to select, so why settle with the basic. For instance, the choice could be a beautiful wooden shed. Though in the long run it would require protection and maintenance, wooden sheds look natural and they tend to blend in with the rest of the garden. However if maintenance seems too bothering a clause, try the metal sheds. They are solid and resistant provided they are made from galvanized steel. Other options in this category include plastic sheds and vinyl sided sheds.

For the base of the shed, paving slabs could suffice or maybe you could fix in a concrete floor. Treated timber bearers are also an option in this category. Concrete blocks are the most economical and easiest to build. Moreover, the construction would be stable.

Other aspects that deserve attention include accessibility, shed placement, natural light availability, power, water and other basic requirements should be considered for your shed. Placement should be such that the shed does not render an awkward look to the adjoining house or construction, and careful space utilisation is pertinent as well.

Let’s plan

With the two basic aspects worked out, planning assumes priority. A shed plan can be purchased, referred to from books, or could be self designed. The last option could be difficult, especially if you are an amateur in this field. A suggestion therefore is to move with a readymade plan, already tested and tried.

Check the codes

Local building codes and ordinances must be closely checked before starting on the construction of your shed. Some sheds, like other structures, require the requisite permits, in absence of which they could be considered illegal. The ordinances could include: clauses relevant to the total space that can be occupied; construction time restrictions, etc. Approval might take weeks, and with some Housing Associations there are various rules and regulations that need to be addressed before a shed can be erected. There is more to building sheds then meets the eye, but now that you have been forewarned, you are now forearmed.

Conditional Fee Agreements have been in place since 1995 but when they were first introduced they only covered a limited number of cases until it was extended in 1998 to cover all civil cases, with the exception of family proceeding.

The introduction of the conditional fee agreements has meant that thousands of people can make claims that they previously couldn’t afford. This is because the introduction of conditional fee agreements replaced legal aid and made it possible for anyone to put in a claim for compensation regardless of their social status or how much money they have.

The term is the technical and legal term for no win no fee claims and every personal injury solicitor offers you the no win no fee agreements. By arranging a no win no fee claim you keep 100% of the compensation that you are awarded with your fees being paid by the losing party’s insurance company. If you win your compensation claim based on a no win no fee agreement you really don’t have any fees to pay and all of the compensation that you are awarded really is yours to keep. If however you lose your case you will be liable for the wining parties solicitors fees but your personal injury lawyer team should take out an insurance policy that is used to cover the cost of the wining party’s solicitor’s fees. You will not be responsible for the cost of this insurance policy.

So just who can apply to claim for compensation based on a no win no fee claim? Basically if you have been injured in the last three years due to an accident that should have been avoided that was caused through no fault of your own and that has left you with personal injury then you have a good chance at a successful compensation claim. If you have been injured due to the negligence of another driver or an uneven paving slab or maybe you were given faulty equipment at work; whatever your situation, if someone was at fault then get in touch with a personal injury lawyer today.

When you contact a personal injury solicitor your case will be thoroughly assed and the merits of it will be looked at closely. Every personal injury case is different and that is exactly how they should be dealt with is as individual cases. Once your case has been evaluated you will be told a likely outcome.

Once your case has been assessed and you have been told whether or not you have a likely chance of winning you will be asked to sign a no win no fee agreement (conditional fee agreement) it is highly important that before you sign anything that you read the agreement thoroughly to ensure that you understand everything that is being asked of you. If when you are reading through the agreement there are any aspects that you do not understand you should speak to your personal injury solicitor and get them to explain everything that is meant. This is really important because once you have signed the agreement the only way that you can drop the case if your personal injury solicitor agrees, or if you agree to pay them their fees.

If you need to cut through steel, concrete, tile or some other heavy material, you may need an angle grinder. Many construction supply companies offer a broad selection of industrial and construction supplies, including angle grinders. Angle Grinders are power tools for cutting, grinding, polishing, or sanding with an electric or gas powered motor. They have an abrasive disc that spins at high speeds of thousands of revolutions per minute. It is applied to metal, concrete, stone, or other surfaces to cut or polish.

The discs come in a variety of hardness, grits, and materials. Angle grinder discs need to be spinning before they are applied to the material to be cut or sanded. It is then pressed firmly into the material. Safety supplies such as ear plugs, goggles, and gloves should be worn, as well as breathing masks if the object to be cut could create powder.

The angle grinder is a very versatile tool. Construction workers use them to cut through steel and concrete. Road workers use them to cut through asphalt, and rescue workers can use them to cut through the steel frames of cars. Other uses for angle grinders include the cutting of bricks, paving slabs, metal bars, and roof tiles.

Features of Metabo angle grinders include spindle locks, low profile gear housing, aluminum die cast gear housing, high performance gears, wheel guard with locking device, Metabo slip clutch, auto-stop carbon brushes, and winding protection grid. North State Supply Company offers a selection of Metabo angle grinders with varied grind wheel diameters, variable speeds, temperature sensors, and cordless or electronic options.

North State Supply has developed strong relationships with thousands of vendors allowing them to provide high quality products at competitive prices. They have an extensive inventory of construction supplies and have been in business since 1950.

Fibreglass moulds are required for the production of fibreglass mouldings, but suppose you wanted to design and manufacture a boat hull, you would need to make a pattern also known as a plug or buck first, this is an exact model/replica of the end product, the pattern will have the exact dimensions and surface appearance of the finished product.

Once the pattern is made, it is prepared with several coats of mould release wax followed by a coat of PVA release agent, the pattern is now ready for the gel-coat to be applied, this will be painted or sprayed on depending upon the size of the mould to be made, but the gel-coat should be a tooling grade material and as such provide a long life for the production mould and good gloss retention, once the gel-coat has cured a second coat is applied and allowed to cure as well, the gel-coat will remain tacky, that is ok, the tacky surface of gel-coat will enable a good bond to the laminate to be achieved in the next process.

Now the gel-coat has cured but still a little tacky, the first layer of glass fibre is laid onto the back of the gel-coat and impregnated with resin, the saturated glass fibre is then rolled with a special roller to remove trapped air and consolidate the glass fibres, this initial layer is allowed to harden and cure, we call this process the first layer or skinning the mould, now the first layer has cured you can apply more layer of glass fibre impregnated with resin until the required thickness is achieved, these consecutive layers are also allowed to harden and cure, once these new laminates have cured the mould can be stabilised with either a timber or metal frame-work which is bonded to the back of the mould to keep it rigid and stable, but remember a mould can also be more than one piece, depending upon the design of the product (complexity of design , undercuts, flash line, ect) but if the mould is flanged into multiple pieces, you must ensure that locators are employed on all flanges to ensure all mould pieces align.

Now the mould is complete the pattern can be released, compressed air or wedges may be required to break the seal, once the pattern is released from the mould we start again by applying several coats of mould release wax to the new mould, remember its good practice to apply PVA release agent to the mould face of the new mould for the first pull, this will ensure that the first fibreglass product will come out with out sticking.

Also fibreglass moulds are manufactured for moulding products in pre-cast concrete, these moulds are called pre-cast concrete moulds, and are used to produce paving slabs, sea-defence sections and components that are to intricate for the mould to be formed in timber, in short fibreglass moulds come in all shapes and sizes and are used to manufacture products for a wide range of applications in industry, some of these products range from,

Boat hulls and associated components, water slides and theme park rides, architectural columns and arch’s, Lorry wind deflectors and body kits, airport furniture, pre-cast concrete moulds, wind turbine blades, planters, enclosures, shower trays and baths, modular buildings, machine guards and covers, and so much more…

Congratulations, you now have a brief understanding of fibreglass moulds, and the process’s employed to manufacture a basic mould, but you must also be mindful of material choice and mould design, as discussed before, some moulds will need to be more then one piece and hence need to be flanged into multiple pieces, so design criteria at the product stage is key, but don’t be put off by this, fibreglass is a great composite material that allows designers the scope to achieve products that are stunning and cost effective.

As utility bills climb to unseen levels it is unsurprising that many people are starting to install water meters to their homes. This is because the old system of having a categorised water bill has become increasingly more expensive as water companies try to increase their revenue. As such, water meters are a way to not only reduce the prices of your bill but to also use less water in your home.

The move towards water meters is not just a result of a homeowner’s pursuit of cheaper bills. The government in the last twelve months has made it law that all new builds must be built with water meters as standard. These new regulations are supposed to ensure that those buying new homes have a greater respect for the environmental effects of being wasteful with water, as well the financial costs of wasting this precious resource.

It is not just new builds where the government is trying to introduce water meters in a uniform manner. This battle to conserve water is being fought in the cause of water conservation. With droughts seemingly becoming a regular, if not annual occurrence this move by the government, in conjunction with the amenities is unsurprising. These environmental policies were only a short time ago being championed by the environment minister.

In a statement he professed a desire to increase water conservation in drought prone areas through a variety of measures. Not only were meters at the heart of this conservation effort but points also raised in the statement included the introduction of more porous paving slabs in gardens to aid drainage as well as attempting to reduce the use of phosphates in washing powder to further reduce environmental harm.

Water meters for all homes are key to the government’s strategy over the next twenty years. With so many new houses being built it will not be long before a major water shortage occurs across Britain nationwide. It was argued that this would be a result of not only wastefulness of homeowners but also a result of climate change and economic growth.

The problem with an all encompassing water supply strategy is that regions are different and have different characteristics. As such, for any policies to be successful it is important to take a local approach taking into account factors that relate to that area directly. That said it is still possible to draw general policies that can be applied across the country. By 2030 the government wants average daily water usage to be reduced from 150 to 120 litres. Part of this reduction is to introduce water meters into homes so people are conscious of the water they are using.

Many homeowners however are not happy with the introduction of water meters wholesale. While those who live alone or in small families will benefit, it is those houses that have many residents that will feel the financial pinch of the usage of water meters. Thankfully government ministers are also researching the different charging policies to create a fair pricing structure that will suit all. One thing is agreed, that the existing pricing methods are not only archaic, but wholly unrepresentative. The hope of the research is to produce a pricing system that will actively encourage people to conserve water.

There is little doubt that water meters will become a large part of the water charging and measuring system in the UK. This can not only be seen as a good thing for homeowners’ wallets but also for the environment that will benefit from the reduced amounts of water being used and processed.

don’t mow

What a waste of time this is. You devote enormous efforts to making the grass grow – watering, fertiliser, weed treatments – and then once or twice a week you chop it all down again. Doesn’t make sense. Leave the grass longer. Or have a wild flower meadow. Do something !

don’t dig

A lot of effort here. You dig your vegetable patch, and then use half of it for walking on when you tend your growing crops. Make life simple by laying out permanent paths so that all your “patch” can be reached from a path. And when I say permanent I mean: just lay out the cheapest possible paving slabs as your path – directly on top of the weeds and grass you can’t be bothered to dig up. Line underneath with plastic fabric if you like to stop weeds coming through the cracks. With this layout you can keep all the little parcels of land loose and uncompacted.

don’t weed

Tricky – you don’t want to fight nature (see below) but it might not be quite right to let the weeds take over. So compromise – make sure that your ground is fully covered by plants that you want. Don’t leave bare soil – that’s what the weeds want

don’t use your own compost

A potential disaster area this one. If you look carefully through your compost you will find hundreds of little white, round, glistening eggs. These are slugs and snails eggs and will repay your efforts to raise them by eating your plants. Make your compost if you like but don’t use it. Better by far to use composted municipal waste or farmyard manure.

don’t use insecticides

If you want a really good crop of greenflies (aphids) then spray insecticide early in the season and wait for the result. You will have thousands of really nice greenflies, which otherwise would have been eaten by the ladybird larvae, which you knocked out when you sprayed. The trick works because the ladybirds are on a longer lifecycle than the greenfly, and their population recovers more slowly. I’ve stopped spraying insecticide, and after nature had time to recover have suffered very little from insect attack – just occasional bursts of caterpillars (pick them off, there’s rarely very many) and aphids on the growing tip of broad beans (just pinch out the tips – it doesn’t matter the bean pods will have already formed below ).

don’t fight nature

It’s a waste of time, and long term nature usually wins. There’s a brilliant book by Mark Winston called Nature Wars which is captivating reading and which covers exactly this ground. But the important thing for you is to able to defend yourself against your critics when you leave untidy patches in your garden. You just say that you’re not trying to battle against nature. And you would be right.

Don’t …………….er

I couldn’t think of the last one, but YOU can. Please write !
