Decorative aggregate rock is one of the best materials for landscaping, and creative natural design. With all the exciting blends and colors available, it is easy to make yards and gardens come alive with color, texture, and to make the scenery you love to look at a reality, no matter where you live.

Aggregate rocks are used many ways, including in flowerbeds, as ground cover, and for paving walkways. This rock trim can be integrated as a decorative concrete topping, and are a designer’s best friend for versatility. It is a green, eco-friendly product that requires little care, and virtually no water or tedious maintenance. Using aggregate rock for landscaping is a cost effective alternative to wood mulching that requires care and replacement. Rock is permanent, and can be used above ground and around ponds with pond safe rock materials. Decorative aggregate rock is purchased in small quantities by the bag, or in bulk for large quantities.

With the many exciting choices of decorative aggregate rock on the market, landscapers can design whatever look they want, from desert to high-mountain, valley or riverbed. They can use the colorful materials to enhance natural surroundings, or create a “happy place” that is totally different from the local geography. In some areas that are very arid, green aggregate rock is used instead of hard to grow grass. There is less maintenance, and rocks do not die off in bad or dry weather. A commonly used decorative aggregate rock is the familiar white marble chips that people put next to their homes, along walkways, and in flowerbeds. Red or black lava rocks bring drama to the landscape, and river rock is used for driveways and paths.

Color is important to design, and rocks have all the colors of nature, from pink and gray, to gold and sand colors. Crushed river rock and oversize river rock find their way into yards and gardens in every locality. Sizes of aggregate rock vary from pea gravel to large rocks. The landscaper knows how to install the rock properly, so it will not wash out or become easily displaced.

The top ten decorative aggregate rock selections include: pink and gray slate, white marble, river rock, red and black lava, green, golden, and colored stones, river rock, sand pebble, Spanish tile, limestone chips, and granite. Add color, enhance design, and create a wonderland with affordable decorative aggregate rock.

When considering a landscaping project get ideas, talk to people with landscape experience and visit websites of local landscapers. This will help you learn what ideas are in your budget; remember to include monthly maintenance costs when creating your landscape. Aggregate rock is usually a very affordable way to decorate your landscape and keep monthly maintenance costs low. Also, the amount of labor needed to keep your rocks looking good is minimal on a monthly basis and there is no ‘out of season’ for rocks. That’s not to say rocks require zero maintenance, but by consulting with someone with experience you can learn which rocks will fill your needs.

Concrete homes are easy-to-maintain and extremely safe, in terms of being fire, termites and rot resistant. With today’s innovative concrete homebuilding systems, beautiful concrete homes in any style can be built with all the added benefits like energy efficiency, safety, and peace. Beautiful homes, built to last; that’s the beauty of today’s concrete!

Old concrete with cracks, surface discoloration and imperfections must be removed and replaced for improving the look. Concrete Resurfacing involves methods for giving worn, unsightly concrete a complete makeover by resurfacing, staining, applying overlays and more. Many different looks and Concrete Finishes can be achieved by a variety of different patterns and techniques. By doing this, one also saves money, conserves resources, and eliminates disposal problems.

A Concrete Driveway has become an essential part of the landscaping plan that imparts an inviting image. The wide variety of texture, color, and patterns of concrete available today has elevated the driveway to the status of a landscape design element meeting today’s homeowners’ exacting demands. However, these have a tendency to develop cracks and potholes over a period of time. Concrete Driveway Resurfacing involves revitalizing and fixing concrete to add curb appeal and value to a home.

Not only is concrete functional, it lends itself to a wide variety of design options which can make a dramatic difference in home landscaping plans, as well as enhance property values. In addition to the traditional look, concrete can have the decorative appearance, feel, and color of brick, tile, slate, or stone. Today Concrete Finishes have expanded to include an astounding array of decorative options. Sometimes referred to as a cement driveway or painted concrete, Decorative Concrete is one of the most reasonable ways to spruce up the entrance to a home. Although Plain gray Concrete is still installed most often, more people are catching on to the dazzling effects possible with decorative concrete, and seeing the instant curb appeal a decorative driveway can give to any home, no matter what the style.

The growing demand for Decorative Concrete has been fueled by pragmatic considerations, including green building benefits, relatively low cost and simple maintenance requirements that eliminate the use of harsh chemicals. Concrete is also one of the greenest materials to build a driveway. Good Driveway Paving Contractors work towards maximizing the green attributes of concrete pavements.

Concrete provides the perfect canvas for creating an economical replica of more expensive materials, and yet still maintaining a very natural, authentic look. Concrete Services provide an endless array of decorative effects to have the concrete floor colored and textured to resemble almost anything!

Decorative Aggregates are available in a wide array of shapes and sizes for use in gardens, driveways, pathways, borders etc. Most aggregates used in the UK are quarried in the UK, although imported aggregates can provide some exotic and exciting colours and styles, they are usually overlooked as they are less cost effective than there British counterparts.

Size is an important factor when deciding on the right aggregate for your application. We normally recommend aggregates between 10mm and 20mm in size. Although 6mm aggregates are common, this size can often result in areas being used as giant cat litter trays by the local feline population. Whereas a 20mm sized aggregate will not be used in this way and is a good size for foot traffic and for use on driveways.

When choosing a decorative aggregate for driveways you should consider using a flint/chipping type of material. These materials will interlock and there will be less movement compared pea gravel/shingle type materials, as these normally have a smooth rounded quality. It is important to ensure your Aggregates are laid to right depth. The depth should be twice the size of the Aggregate itself. So if you are using a 20mm sized aggregate this should be laid to a depth of 40mm.

If you are looking for Decorative Aggregates for aquatics then it is important to ensure you know which materials will not upset the waters PH balance. You should be able to obtain this information from any good Aggregate retailer. As a rule of thumb Granite, Marble, Slate and Sandstone materials are fine for use with aquatics; any forms of Limestone should be avoided. We would also recommend rinsing through some Aggregates before using them in fish tanks and ponds, this is due to the Stone rubbing together and generating dust within its packaging, during transportation.

When purchasing Aggregates you will have options regarding packaging and delivery which will affect the cost and the practicality of laying the materials.Decorative Aggregates are usually available in small bags (20 – 25kg) bulk bags (850kg) and loose loads dropped by tipper vehicles. When purchasing large quantities for driveways tipper vehicles are often the most cost effective, but this has to be practical in regards to where the vehicle can drop its load. Bulk bags can be delivered using a crane offload facility which means they can be dropped into more specific locations and this is often the most practical option. Both bulk bags and small bags can be delivered by vehicles with a tail offload facility.

decorative aggregates are available in various tones and colours including Black, Cream, Red, Green and different shades of Brown, Yellow and Buff. These materials are a highly attractive way to cover areas of your property and are often more cost effective than paving and cobbles. For large projects it is important to seek professional advice.

Decorative concrete, also known as patterned concrete and stamped concrete, is quickly becoming a popular alternative to traditional paving stones. Creating an outdoor patio or walkway with brick, flagstone or other pavers is an aesthetically pleasing look for your yard, but is not a universally viable option because of potential cost or climatic difficulties.

Patterned concrete has become a popular alternative to pavers because it is often a more cost effective material to use, and it may be an easier material to work with and install in tricky climates. A rainy climate provides challenges to using pavers because they continue to settle once they are installed—an issue that does not present a problem for the decorative concrete technique. The practical applications of using patterned concrete in your yard as opposed to pavers, and the advantages of making this choice, are well known and widely documented.

However, one important advantage that is frequently overlooked is the creative flexibility that patterned concrete allows one to have.

Traditional artistry for modern design

Decorative concrete is created through a process that is similar to old printing methods. The wet concrete is poured and smoothed, and before it is allowed to dry, a plate with a pattern etched into the exterior is applied to the wet concrete, imparting the design from the plate onto the concrete, creating a pattern. This process is repeated over the entire surface area of the concrete, usually generating a tessellating design. Color can be added in a variety of ways, either as a dye to the entire batch of wet concrete, creating a uniform and consistent color to your concrete, or by adding color to just the top layer of concrete.

The usual trend is to install patterned concrete to mimic the look of brick, flagstone or some other material when the process of installing those original materials isn’t a possibility because of cost or environmental conditions. But one of the beauties of decorative concrete is the creative license to which the process lends itself.

Unique patterns of your artistry

Because the pattern or design of choice is etched into a plate that is then stamped onto the concrete, there are literally hundreds of patterns from which to choose. Your builder or concrete installer will have a palate of plates to choose from, so you can pick a design that most reflects your taste and individuality.

Another option is to have the master design a plate custom made for a truly unique, one-of-a-kind addition to your backyard. This is a particularly popular choice with artists and designers, creating a look that will stand out from the norm.

Rainbow of pleasing colors

An additional aspect of the creative license that decorative concrete allows is the process of color application. If patterned concrete is being installed to mimic the look of brick for instance, it is a natural assumption that the concrete will by dyed the rich russet color of traditional brick.

Concrete in its natural state is a light gray color, making it literally a blank slate. If you use the process of integral color, by which the entire volume of the concrete is dyed, you can pick from a range of colors, or mix several colors to obtain an exclusive look.

Choosing the process of cast-on color, where the dye is added to only the top layer of the concrete, is another choice offering vast creativity. Having a uniform color to your sidewalk or patio is a widely accepted practice, but with the process of cast-on color, you can choose to make a pattern with color. By using the process of adding color to the top layer, the color can be swirled or striped, creating a unique look. The colors can even be alternated if you would like to have each stone a different color, or make a pattern with the color of your stones by repeating a pattern using two or three solid colors, for instance.

Patterned concrete is a stylish choice when deciding how to pave your walkway or patio, and it is also a creatively exciting choice for people who want to add a bit of personal flair to their environment.
