Concrete driveway

To start off, let’s not vilify the concrete option: it’s still a good option. Concrete is affordable, easy to clean, durable and drains water well. Unfortunately, laying concrete – or even asphalt involves a lot of work and you will probably require the services of a contractor. For these reasons, many people have decided, in their garage construction plan, against concrete and opted for a variety of other building materials for their driveway.

You may not know it yet but there are a huge number of other good alternatives for garage driveways while selecting garage construction plan.

Twin concrete strips

First, one can build, in the garage construction plan, a twin concrete strips. This means pouring two 2-foot wide concrete strips just enough for your tires to drive along. The most obvious advantage of this design, is that a twin concrete strip design is superbly affordable than laying concrete over the entire garage driveway width. It is also perfect for someone who does not have much time and energy left after a long garage designing exercise: just lay two parallel strips of concrete or asphalt and you are done!

The only problem with twin strips is that they easily sink – either under the pressure of your car or they simply disappear under the vegetation if the garden is poorly maintained.

Crushed limestone

The second driveway design option in garage construction plan is using crushed limestone. Here you can use a very wide variety of rocks: gravel, crushed rock and pebbles. This option is not always easy to maintain as the gravel tend to spread around and beyond the driveway itself. There is also the problem of weeds growing through the driveway over the years.

Acid stained concrete

Another great driveway idea I have seen recently is acid-stained concrete. It’s very aesthetical but should me done by a specialist because of the obvious hazard of using a large quantity of acid.

Paver blocks

Let me also mention a beautiful option which blends the benefits of paver blocks with a nice green look: turfstone pavers. This type of garage driveway material lasts long and drains fairly well. But if you are on a limited budget then this might not be a good option for you: turfstone pavers are quite expensive.

Many people finally choose to go for the fairly classic paver blocks. Let’s admit it; this is still a design great option, even if it involves a lot of additional work. Naturally, paving blocks are still pricier than concrete or asphalt. This type of driveway also last very long and can be a great aesthetic option in a garage construction plan.

To what extent you can plan landscaping the front yard may be limited by some factors that you can’t control. The size of your lot, how your home faces the street, and property lines can all be limiting factors. Careful planning and consideration of these factors will help you reach a medium of functionality and beauty in the front.

I know that this seems basic and obvious but many times folks simply just don’t know where to start or go with their design. So as a starting point, by first laying out your needed access paths, you could possibly be laying out the framework of your entire design. Not only will laying out these areas take up a lot of space, but it will also create shape, areas to design around, and a visual direction for your ideas.

Usually, the most dominant access use in the front yard is for vehicles and parking. So we’ll determine where we and our guests are going to park, drive, and turn around. Also, we’ll decide where our walkways, sidewalks, and paths will lead from these areas to the home.

Your driveway should not only lead to entry points but should also allow for off street parking. The entrance of the driveway should be wide enough to comfortably drive in and out of. It may be desirable to also have a way to turn around inside the driveway. Having a turn around area is an added safety factor to keep from having to blindly back out onto busy streets.

If you have enough space, a circular drive is usually the best access to entries along with the safety factor of drive through. It also provides an opportunity for creativity as you can create some design on the inside of the outer circle of the driveway.

If a complete semi-circle drive isn’t possible, you may have room for a regular drive with a simple cutout addition. This cutout can also be used as additional parking when needed. It doesn’t need to be paved or even the sam material as the rest of the drive as it won’t receive the same amount of use as the rest of the drive.

Simply widening the driveway in an area can provide additional parking as well as enough room to turn around. Again, this area doesn’t have to be totally improved. It just has to drain well and support the weight of a vehicle.

By first addressing your vehicle access to your home, you’ll be taking care of a large portion of the front yard design. Then by adding sidewalks and other foot access from driveways to the home, you’ll possibly have the entire framework of your front yard landscaping created. And then deciding on secondary design elements such as plants and ground covers will be a much smaller task and much easier to visualize.

Luxurious as the place is, staying inside the hotel is never enough for a vacationer.  You would want to explore the city and see all the tourist destinations.  To make things easy, you can reserve tours at the hotel’s front desk.  You can also grab flyers and a map of the area to boot, at the souvenir shop near the front desk.  Once the reservations have been made, all you need to do is sit back, enjoy the facilities, and wait for the tour bus to arrive.  A tour guide, provided by the hotel, will tell stories and factoids about each area you pass by.

You’ll need all the rest you could get, for tomorrow promises to be another fun filled day.

Use colour, scent and features in areas that are practical and comfortable, pleasing and refined, and create calm and spacious surroundings that one would love to enjoy. The buyer experience begins in the garden with a sense of excitement and inspiration, mixed with an anticipation of comfort and wellbeing that only the beauty and harmony of a cared for natural garden can provide.  

Where to Start

Before you start showing the house, invest some time, money and effort to create looks that sell and pass the ‘kerb appeal’ test that will attract interest and not repel prospective buyers. Speculate to accumulate is probably another way to look at it. Focus on optimising the buyer experience, attention to detail defines the whole experience, and this should be apparent from the entrance gate. Now should be a good time to start work.

Lawns

Lawns should be in good condition, evenly cut with crisp well defined neat edges and cleared of all grass cuttings, fallen leaf and weeded etc. If colour is not vivid consider feeding with lawn fertiliser. If the problems are more serious and lawn is infested with weeds, it might be better to replace old lawn with new turf. A well maintained groomed lawn whatever the size makes a striking impression.

Shrubs, Trees and Flowers.

Dead head old flowers, trim and prune trees and shrubs where necessary, especially low hanging or overgrown branches especially around windows, over footpaths. Remove all dead shoots and branches. If there are obvious yawning gaps in planted areas, better to fill voids with new plant stock. Do bear in mind, the importance of colour and flower and ensure all plants are watered and look healthy. For a striking and fresh looking finish mulch planted areas with bark mulch. If the garden appears neglected, it might well require more professional assistance to complete the remedial works including installation of new lawn areas, and revisions to planting scheme. For more modest undertakings, best to keep it simple by planting groups (block planting) the same type and to bring out the best in colour and achieve impact use seasonal flowers. Do not overlook scent which can be an exciting experience in the garden. There are plenty of plant types to choose from including Shrubs, herbaceous and Herbs, e.g., Lavenders, Santolinas, Helichrysums, Lillies, Roses, Dill, Thyme, Rosemary etc. Try planting scented shrubs near windows or better still near seating areas and along footpath edges.

Patios and Paving

Patios and paved areas should be weed free, tidy and if necessary power washed to remove accumulated surface grime, lichen, moss etc.  Check Driveway areas for any signs of engine oil, and remove any oil stains with proprietary cleaners. Garden Features

Ideally water features and especially pond areas should be cleaned and pumps in good working order. Also check garden lights and replace any faulty light bulbs. Miscellaneous Areas

So before selling your house pay some careful but critical attention to the garden areas. Some simple adjustments to particular aspects of the landscaping, not only enhances the overall effect, but could make it easier and faster to sell the house. More importantly the seller will be wise to remember the importance of the exterior and its role in shaping the prospective buyer’s first impression and making it count.
