Most people who design their own garage construction plan often neglect the design of an aesthetical driveway to go with it. Most end up with a fairly uninspiring concrete or gravel driveway – either because these seem to be about the only available option to them, or they are simply too exhausted by the construction of the main building itself, and they have simply not much time and energy left to design a decent driveway. And this is a pity.

Concrete driveway

To start off, let’s not vilify the concrete option: it’s still a good option. Concrete is affordable, easy to clean, durable and drains water well. Unfortunately, laying concrete – or even asphalt involves a lot of work and you will probably require the services of a contractor. For these reasons, many people have decided, in their garage construction plan, against concrete and opted for a variety of other building materials for their driveway.

You may not know it yet but there are a huge number of other good alternatives for garage driveways while selecting garage construction plan.

Twin concrete strips

First, one can build, in the garage construction plan, a twin concrete strips. This means pouring two 2-foot wide concrete strips just enough for your tires to drive along. The most obvious advantage of this design, is that a twin concrete strip design is superbly affordable than laying concrete over the entire garage driveway width. It is also perfect for someone who does not have much time and energy left after a long garage designing exercise: just lay two parallel strips of concrete or asphalt and you are done!

The only problem with twin strips is that they easily sink – either under the pressure of your car or they simply disappear under the vegetation if the garden is poorly maintained.

Crushed limestone

The second driveway design option in garage construction plan is using crushed limestone. Here you can use a very wide variety of rocks: gravel, crushed rock and pebbles. This option is not always easy to maintain as the gravel tend to spread around and beyond the driveway itself. There is also the problem of weeds growing through the driveway over the years.

Acid stained concrete

Another great driveway idea I have seen recently is acid-stained concrete. It’s very aesthetical but should me done by a specialist because of the obvious hazard of using a large quantity of acid.

Paver blocks

Let me also mention a beautiful option which blends the benefits of paver blocks with a nice green look: turfstone pavers. This type of garage driveway material lasts long and drains fairly well. But if you are on a limited budget then this might not be a good option for you: turfstone pavers are quite expensive.

Many people finally choose to go for the fairly classic paver blocks. Let’s admit it; this is still a design great option, even if it involves a lot of additional work. Naturally, paving blocks are still pricier than concrete or asphalt. This type of driveway also last very long and can be a great aesthetic option in a garage construction plan.

To create inviting, attractive, and easy entryway to your home and property, functionality of the landscape should be your first concern. Plants and other elements should be secondary concerns. And since the main function of front yard landscaping is generally access to the home, our first design focus would be how and where are we going to enter and exit our homes.

To what extent you can plan landscaping the front yard may be limited by some factors that you can’t control. The size of your lot, how your home faces the street, and property lines can all be limiting factors. Careful planning and consideration of these factors will help you reach a medium of functionality and beauty in the front.

I know that this seems basic and obvious but many times folks simply just don’t know where to start or go with their design. So as a starting point, by first laying out your needed access paths, you could possibly be laying out the framework of your entire design. Not only will laying out these areas take up a lot of space, but it will also create shape, areas to design around, and a visual direction for your ideas.

Usually, the most dominant access use in the front yard is for vehicles and parking. So we’ll determine where we and our guests are going to park, drive, and turn around. Also, we’ll decide where our walkways, sidewalks, and paths will lead from these areas to the home.

Your driveway should not only lead to entry points but should also allow for off street parking. The entrance of the driveway should be wide enough to comfortably drive in and out of. It may be desirable to also have a way to turn around inside the driveway. Having a turn around area is an added safety factor to keep from having to blindly back out onto busy streets.

If you have enough space, a circular drive is usually the best access to entries along with the safety factor of drive through. It also provides an opportunity for creativity as you can create some design on the inside of the outer circle of the driveway.

If a complete semi-circle drive isn’t possible, you may have room for a regular drive with a simple cutout addition. This cutout can also be used as additional parking when needed. It doesn’t need to be paved or even the sam material as the rest of the drive as it won’t receive the same amount of use as the rest of the drive.

Simply widening the driveway in an area can provide additional parking as well as enough room to turn around. Again, this area doesn’t have to be totally improved. It just has to drain well and support the weight of a vehicle.

By first addressing your vehicle access to your home, you’ll be taking care of a large portion of the front yard design. Then by adding sidewalks and other foot access from driveways to the home, you’ll possibly have the entire framework of your front yard landscaping created. And then deciding on secondary design elements such as plants and ground covers will be a much smaller task and much easier to visualize.

Living life in luxury is a dream for many people. You have access to the daintiest furniture as well as a plethora of advanced gadgets, such as home entertainment systems. If you’re staying at the world’s best luxury hotels, not only will you enjoy a lavish lifestyle, you’ll also be treated to fine service provided by the hotel staff. You’ll know how it feels like to live like a king, at least for the duration of your vacation.

From afar, the best luxury hotels look like modern castles, displaying exquisite architecture. Some look like magnificent structures, with the buildings towering well over the city, while others seem like 18th century mansions, along with the courtyards and nicely paved driveways. You’ll already have a good idea on what you’re paying for, the moment you catch a glimpse of the building. In truth, this is a pretty exciting feeling for most travelers.

Once you enter the building, you’ll see a large and well-styled lobby. Most hotels embellish their lobbies to the hilt, which gives the impression of class and beauty, astounding all of the guests in an instant. You’ll be treated to complimentary drinks, and sometimes snacks, as you make arrangements at the front desk. The service crew will then carry your baggage to your room.

After unloading your things, you’d probably want to explore the facility. You’d likely find a grand swimming pool with several Jacuzzis, a magnificent garden, a gymnasium, a game room, a coffee shop, a handful of restaurants, a casino, and a few nightclubs, much to your pleasure. Quite frankly, the best luxury hotels have more than enough activities in store to keep you occupied, completely.

Luxurious as the place is, staying inside the hotel is never enough for a vacationer. You would want to explore the city and see all the tourist destinations. To make things easy, you can reserve tours at the hotel’s front desk. You can also grab flyers and a map of the area to boot, at the souvenir shop near the front desk. Once the reservations have been made, all you need to do is sit back, enjoy the facilities, and wait for the tour bus to arrive. A tour guide, provided by the hotel, will tell stories and factoids about each area you pass by.

You’ll need all the rest you could get, for tomorrow promises to be another fun filled day.

The first thing to do before putting your house on the market is preparing your house for the sale. Research figures show that when it comes to forming an impression, prospective buyers form an opinion within 30 seconds of viewing the property’s exterior. Referred to as ‘Kerb Appeal’, how the buyers initially react to the exterior can have a major impact on eventual interest. Since the exterior is the first thing a buyer will see, first impressions are very important. This relative short but critically important 30 seconds which determines the first impression could be the crucial difference for both the seller and the prospective buyer.

As outdoor living becomes a more important priority for many, it is not surprising therefore that many consider the garden a critically important aspect of the exterior. Ideally effective use of colour and style should provide a seamless transition from the house interior to the ‘outdoor room’ or garden areas. In such situations how the front and rear gardens are presented to prospective buyers is very important if an overall positive image is to be achieved.

In today’s competitive property marketplace, sellers should ensure that when it comes to selling time that the gardens look their very best. At a basic level, areas should be clean and clear of clutter. However much more needs to be done to create attractive gardens that could make all the difference to the prospective buyer.

‘Kerb Appeal’

What first impression a prospective buyer may have, begins with perhaps a view from a passing car or literally at the kerbside. But how do you determine ‘Kerb Appeal’? For starters take a good look around the immediate neighbourhood. Look at nearby houses, how does your house compare? Are your gardens above/below average standard for area? Is the fencing, paintwork and paved areas in good condition? Are trees and shrubs neat and tidy? Are there signs of wear and tear, fallen leaf, overlooked debris and toys cluttering areas? Are there obvious signs of colour and vibrancy? Are lawn areas groomed, green and refreshing or simply jaded weedy patches?

Use colour, scent and features in areas that are practical and comfortable, pleasing and refined, and create calm and spacious surroundings that one would love to enjoy. The buyer experience begins in the garden with a sense of excitement and inspiration, mixed with an anticipation of comfort and wellbeing that only the beauty and harmony of a cared for natural garden can provide.

Where to Start

Before you start showing the house, invest some time, money and effort to create looks that sell and pass the ‘kerb appeal’ test that will attract interest and not repel prospective buyers. Speculate to accumulate is probably another way to look at it. Focus on optimising the buyer experience, attention to detail defines the whole experience, and this should be apparent from the entrance gate. Now should be a good time to start work.

Lawns

Lawns should be in good condition, evenly cut with crisp well defined neat edges and cleared of all grass cuttings, fallen leaf and weeded etc. If colour is not vivid consider feeding with lawn fertiliser. If the problems are more serious and lawn is infested with weeds, it might be better to replace old lawn with new turf. A well maintained groomed lawn whatever the size makes a striking impression.

Shrubs, Trees and Flowers.

Dead head old flowers, trim and prune trees and shrubs where necessary, especially low hanging or overgrown branches especially around windows, over footpaths. Remove all dead shoots and branches. If there are obvious yawning gaps in planted areas, better to fill voids with new plant stock. Do bear in mind, the importance of colour and flower and ensure all plants are watered and look healthy. For a striking and fresh looking finish mulch planted areas with bark mulch. If the garden appears neglected, it might well require more professional assistance to complete the remedial works including installation of new lawn areas, and revisions to planting scheme. For more modest undertakings, best to keep it simple by planting groups (block planting) the same type and to bring out the best in colour and achieve impact use seasonal flowers. Do not overlook scent which can be an exciting experience in the garden. There are plenty of plant types to choose from including Shrubs, herbaceous and Herbs, e.g., Lavenders, Santolinas, Helichrysums, Lillies, Roses, Dill, Thyme, Rosemary etc. Try planting scented shrubs near windows or better still near seating areas and along footpath edges.

Patios and Paving

Patios and paved areas should be weed free, tidy and if necessary power washed to remove accumulated surface grime, lichen, moss etc. Check Driveway areas for any signs of engine oil, and remove any oil stains with proprietary cleaners. A few strategically positioned colourful planters can have a dramatic effect at or near Patio areas or in overlooked recessed areas.

Garden Features

Ideally water features and especially pond areas should be cleaned and pumps in good working order. Also check garden lights and replace any faulty light bulbs. A particularly intrusive interference are Halogen security lights with poor settings, adjust angles and settings correctly so as not to blind house viewers.

Miscellaneous Areas

Toys should be stored away neatly, all garden rubbish should be removed and all doors, windows, drains and down pipes cleared of webs, washed and cleared of any debris. Worth checking are any Garden Outbuildings and Sheds which might benefit from a coat of paint.

So before selling your house pay some careful but critical attention to the garden areas. Some simple adjustments to particular aspects of the landscaping, not only enhances the overall effect, but could make it easier and faster to sell the house. More importantly the seller will be wise to remember the importance of the exterior and its role in shaping the prospective buyer’s first impression and making it count.

Concrete is a very important material used in the construction and building process, and its importance in modern society cannot be underestimated. Just have a look around you. You will find a number of concrete structures everywhere like bridges, buildings, and roads. One cannot escape from the impact that concrete makes on your everyday life. Here is a brief overview about what concrete is and its varied utilities.

Concrete is found almost everywhere. It is nothing but a mixture of cement and water along with added aggregates. Many people assume that cement and concrete are the same, but that’s not true. However, cement is used to make concrete.

Advantages of concrete: The best quality concrete has many advantages associated with it that again adds up to its popularity. Concrete is a non-combustible material, thus safe from fire and it can survive high temperatures. It is economical as the ingredients are available readily. It does not decay, rot or corrode like other building materials. It has a comparatively long life that demands less maintenance. You can mold and cast the concrete in any desired shapes or structures. And lastly, it is resistant to rodents, water, wind, and insects. Hence, it can be used as storm-shelters.

Enhance the concrete surfaces in your house with decorative concrete. Here your design opportunities are endless. Just imagine various unique designs for your dream home, and get it done in reality by using concrete. You can use sealers, paints, decorative stains and simple repairs to add a touch of beauty and longevity to your home’s concrete surfaces. You can do simple projects to customize the look and protect your house from harsh chemicals and weather changes in your driveways, patios, basements floors and landscapes.

In the interiors of your home, you can use concrete for the floor coatings, basement floors, concrete granite tops, and interior flooring in order to increase the durability. In the exterior of your house, concrete can be used in patios, sidewalks, pool decks, and driveways. You can install different types of concrete instead of the very common, gray finish. A very popular type of concrete is the stamped concrete. It combines pattern, colors, textures and a number of design opportunities. Polishing, integral coloring, stenciling, and decorative overlays are some of the more available options for you.

In conclusion, I would like to say that the concrete masonry homes are the best choice for building and constructions. It gives you economical benefits from the chemical make-up of the product, and the insulation it provides can help you save up to 30% on your power bill. Concrete homes provide sustainability benefits along with green house advantages. They offer you great flexibility in designing.

For building a beautiful and structurally superior house, I hope concrete would be your first choice.

Many people are wondering what Perma pave is and how is helps the environment. It is a permeable pavement that filters contaminants out of rain water and allows only clean water to enter into the soil. This helps regenerate the soil and allows the world’s waterways to become cleaner and less toxic for aquatic life. Perma pave can be used for small areas such as individual housing purposes, street ways such as drainage vents and parking lots.

The advantage of using Perma pave is simply that it reduces the pollution and contaminants that rain water carries into our oceans, rivers and streams. The permeable pavement allows water to drain through it at a large volume per second and helps filter out any pollutants that may have been picked up by the flowing water from streets, driveways or parking lots. It then allows the clean water to continue running off of pavements and into drainage bins and into streams, rivers and oceans. This helps to rejuvenate the environment and gives wildlife fresh drinking water which means fewer animal deaths due to contaminated water.

This permeable pavement is made from natural stone with a reservoir that traps pollutants and contaminants. This leaves the pollution and contaminants within the reservoir so it can later be cleaned and disposed of properly. Each permeable pavement segment must be cleaned periodically, as with any other filtering system. Perma pave can be cleaned and reset into the same position it was in before cleaning, reusing the same framing and panels.

Perma pave installation requires a bedding of fine, dust free stone over a sub-grading, lay the permeable pavement on top of bedding and use a diamond bit saw to make cuts on pavement panels. Once Perma pave is in place, use a trowel to place grout between panels. Installation can be done on existing drainage systems such as storm drains or storm grates. They are economical because they are long lasting panels made from real stone.

This water filtration system is swiftly becoming an alternative to the usual metal storm grates because of its benefits to the environment. It lets clean water run into the soil and drainage systems that irrigate gardens and supply water for city water storage. Perma pave is recognized worldwide as a possible solution to pollution. In addition to helping reduce pollution, permeable pavement has a non-slip surface that is safe for pedestrians and cyclists. These panels are not only eco-friendly but attractive. They are designed to go with any outdoor décor around your home, or around city streets and parking areas.
