Most of us have numerous items in our Home that may be used once in day or not used at all. Things begin to accumulate and one day the requirement of storage space to keep these items that are not being used frequently.

The best solution for this is to build a shed within the house premises where we can store all these items freeing some space in the house. Let us know how to build a shed.

So, to build a wooden shed, we need to have certain tools and the wood. It’s easy to build the shed and does not get any difficult techniques. It’s also a good and fun experience while learn how to we build the shed.

Few tips should be known at the time of building the shed.

One should first where the exact location you want the storage shed to be built. Mostly the shed is built in a place that is easily reachable from the house or garage. The ground should be level on which the shed will be built. Check that selected ground for any underground cables or wires or pipes. Since they needs any repair then the shed needs to be removed at that point and this involves money and double work.

Chart out the plan on how much space will the shed be built and what will be its dimensions. Most of the size and dimensions can be studied in books. Make sure the shed will having extra space for the future items that may find its place here. Once the plan is decided, the next thing is to get the list of materials and tools that are required to build the shed. Usually the items like tape, hammers, nails, saws, door hinges and doors and materials for the roof.

Start fixing the floor; make sure that it is nailed properly to the ground using foundation blocks. Do not forget to buy a pair of goggles to keep you protected while you are working on it. After the floor is done, the next step will be fixing the walls, doors and windows. The roof of the shed should be kept last for after all this is over. The roof frame is nailed to the side walls of the wooden storage shed. One can build the storage shed by getting all the things from a pre fabricated kit that eliminates all those wood cutting works but it is expensive.

You can get lot of design and plans present in books related to building and building materials. Also one can browse the net to get further information. Few plans can also be downloaded online at a smaller price and few sites have given the option to download the plans for free. One has to take permission for building the storage shed since it should be ensured that the storage shed does not create any blockage or creates hurdle to the neighborhood. A local carpenter can give you the approx price estimation that will take for building the shortage shed. Once the work is complete, one can paint the walls, doors etc.See the project is done, and it made us learn some carpentry skills.

Those considering building the garden shed will have to make an analysis of the type of methods used to construct the garden shed. Market for ready made sheds is at its peak in the seasons of English summer or spring.

To ensure an increased life span of the garden shed, make sure of using quality and durable material. One should keep the shed or construct it close to the fences or over hanging branches of a large tree. Also one should make sure that the material used for the shed is waterproof and one should also remember to give a fresh coating of paint every year.

Make sure that the base of the storage shed should be larger than the occupied area of the interiors. One can use the following methods to get the right facility and work force like the concrete base method, timber bearer’s methods and the concrete base method.

In concrete base method, a solid foundation is given to the base by excavating the ground and using brick rubble for the foundation to stand.

In paving slab method, the mix of cement with sand is used at the time of foundation so as to keep it strong.

In timber bearers method, the ground is excavated and a mixture of soil, gravel along with rake is used as leveling.

Costs associated with building are a big consideration in today’s economic climate and the current state of the housing market. Will the cost of my project benefit me enough to go through with the project. How much to build a shed? Well let’s consider our options.

Do we need that shed enough to justify the cost? If your garage looks anything like most, you already know that storage space is considered prime real estate. I’ve never heard someone say, “I have too much storage space.” We definitely need to add that shed we’re considering. Adding that shed may well add value to our home.

Well, how much is this shed going to cost us? Would it be cheaper to buy a ready-made shed? You’ll be able to build a good shed much cheaper than the overpriced ready-made sheds you can buy these days. So far we’ve determined that we really need that shed and building it is probably our best option.

How much is my shed going to cost me to build? This will depend on several different factors. We could hire a licensed contractor to build our shed. While this would be extremely convenient, the added costs would be painful indeed. We need to tackle this project on our own. This is a project anyone can handle with a little bit of pre-planning. We need to purchase shed plans or blueprints to guide us. Shed plans are easily obtained and will get us off to the right start.

What can we do to control the cost of our latest DIY project? Here are some things we can control:

*Size of the shed. Obviously a smaller shed will use less material, thereby incurring less cost.

*The type of foundation we use. If our shed is small enough it can be built on an existing patio. This is very cost effective, but not always practical. Some of our other options include: pouring a concrete pad, using crushed stone with either treated wood foundation blocks or paving slabs.

*Type of material used for siding. There are many options, such as: cedar, hardie plank, vinyl, coated steel, aluminum, etc.

Shop around and look at not only price, but also how well the siding is rated and how well it is made to handle the elements of your specific area of the country. Some sidings have a longer life span than others and some are made more specifically for areas of cold or areas of warmer weather. We want our shed to last. We also need to consider re-sale value of our home and weather the material we choose will match the house or other structures located on the property.

*Type of roofing material used. Some of our options include: asphalt shingle, wood shingle or metal.

*Are we adding trim, window boxes, shelves, paint, etc.? Boy this list can really grow.

I guess you’ve figured it out by now. We decide how much to build a shed. The decisions we make determine the cost of our shed. It’s best to start with a specific budget. Shop for materials within that budget and build according to our shed plans.

Do-it-yourself projects like shed building are fast becoming the way things are done today. With a proper plan you can build a great cost effective shed that may add value to your home.

Costs associated with building are a big consideration in today’s economic climate and the current state of the housing market. Is there a way to cut the cuts of the project enough to make it affordable? How can I cut cost building a shed?

What can we do to control the cost of our latest DIY project? Here are some things we can control:

1. Build it yourself instead of hiring a contractor.

2. Use reclaimed materials. Not only is this good for the environment, but it will make your DIY project easy on the pocketbook.

Reclaimed materials can be many different items. Some examples include: wood, windows, doors, footers, trim, shelving, etc. Be creative. You’ll be glad you did. Remember a can of paint can make anything look brand new.

3. Size of shed. Obviously a smaller shed will use less material, thereby incurring less cost

4. The type of foundation we use. If our shed is small enough it can be built on an existing patio. This is very cost effective, but not always practical. Some of our other options include: pouring a concrete pad, using crushed stone with either treated wood foundation blocks or paving slabs.

5. Type of material used for siding. There are many options, such as: cedar, hardie plank, vinyl, coated steel, aluminum, etc. Think of reclaimed material.

6. Type of roofing material used. Some of our options include: asphalt shingle, wood shingle or metal. Don’t forget to look for reclaimed materials you can use.

7. If you’re adding trim, window boxes or shelves. Look around for bits and pieces you have laying around. Re-use materials here. Use up those odds and ends.

Do-it-yourself projects like shed building are fast becoming the way things are done today. With a proper plan you can build a great cost effective shed that may add value to your home.

The purpose of the shed foundation is to bear the weight of your shed and ensure that the weight of the shed and its contents are evenly spread across the ground.

You would also be wise to include damproofing to ensure that rising damp and growing vegetation does not pose a problem in the future for the base of your shed or the contents that you may store on the floor.

Size of Shed
Smaller sheds may not need a foundation at all and it will be fine to just site the shed on a hard stand or patio. But larger sheds will need to be protected against ground movement through the heating and cooling of the ground and frost heave as well as moisture can be a major contributor to the movement of your shed over time.

Some movement of a shed over time is acceptable but if you are investing good money in a substantial structure that you want to stand the test of time then you should not skimp on putting in a good foundation.

Location of Shed
So before deciding on the type of shed foundation you might use, you need to decide about the size of your shed, it’s proximity to growing trees and vegetation and where you are going to locate it.

If your shed is less than 8foot by 6 foot then you should consider the options which include siting your shed on paving slabs, railway sleepers or on nice, level crushed stone or filling. There is also the option nowadays of a plastic shed base.

For bigger sheds you need to put in a solid foundation and this generally will be a concrete slab with a layer of damproofing in it and it is a good idea to also include insulation to ensure that your shed does not become a cold, damp place which will not do justice to your investment.

You will need to dig out the soil to a good, firm, level base to ensure that your concrete slab will be level when the concrete is poured.

Value of Your Shed Investment
The value of your shed as an addition to the value of your property will be greatly enhanced with a good, well constructed shed because the last thing you want if you are selling your house is for any potential purchaser to look at your badly built shed and say “the first thing I will have to do if I buy your house is to have that thing removed”.

In summary, firstly assess your needs in terms of your shed and it may well be that a small shed is perfectly adequate for your needs. But you should always try to look further down the road and consider that if you have a growing family then a bigger shed will serve your needs more adequately and if that is the case then do not skimp on your shed foundation.

There are several ways one can use to know how to build your own shed. After making a plan and getting materials, there are factors that you should consider when building the shed.

The most important of these factors is the base that the shed will have. Whenever you are building anything, the foundation should be done in a very strong way as this is used to support the building.

The best foundation for any shed would be a concrete slab. Though this will require a considerable amount of effort, you will find that it is always the best option.

A basic slab should have dimensions of between 100mm to 4 inches thick. The dimensions can vary depending on the size of the shed and also the amount of work that will be done on the shed.

Tips that you are seeing here should be seriously considered when you are looking for ideas on how to build your own shed. When you think of building a wooden shed, it is normal for you to have a wooden floor.

You should be careful not to put the wood on the ground because no matter how preserved the wood is, putting it on the soil will lead to it getting rot. This means that you will need to put something below the wooden floor to avoid its direct contact with the soil.

The best material that one can use to put on the floor of their shed is the paving slabs. Slabs like this can go a long way in making a permanent base and it is also the best tip on how to build your own shed base.

The steps below will show you how you can design a shed base using slabs. First and foremost, mark out the area that the shed will occupy. Clear this area of any vegetation and try to level it as much as possible.

Next, lay out a string line along two edges of the shed. Lay the first slab in the corner. Make sure it is level by use of a spirit level. Repeat this process until all the slabs are level and in place.

Before you place your wooden floor on the slabs, make sure you apply the underside with several coats of preservative because you will not be able to do it again.

Following these tips will be a great help on how to build your own shed base.

Having a garden shed can be a nice addition to your backyard and garden. It can act as a storage area and perhaps even a working area for the garden. You are probably riled up about getting your shed in place so you can begin to take advantage of it. But before you can worry about the shed, it is vital you focus your attention on building a solid garden shed base.

It is absolutely vital you construct a firm and stable base for the shed. Every shed requires a level base of some sort. While you can pay someone to construct one for you, you can also get the job done yourself with a little bit of knowledge and detailed instructions of how to complete the job.

Prior to building your shed base, there are a few things you want to take into consideration. First, do not place the base too close to walls or fences in case the shed has an overhanging roof. Next, cut any branches that may be in the way if you are to purchase a large shed. Lastly, allow for sufficient access to the outside walls for regular treatments.

Once you have taken these precautions, it is time to determine which method you will use to construct your garden shed base. There really are three methods you have to choose from; concrete, paving slab and timber bearers. While each is different in its own way, there are benefits and downsides to each.

Regardless of the method, the first step is to always mark your area. This allows you to clear any crops you may have. You can mark the area with string and pegs so you know exactly where it is going. It can also allow you to visually picture where and how the garden shed will look in the place you have it.

The first method we will go into detail about is the concrete base method. This is typically recommended for large sheds and log cabins. After you have marked your area, you will excavate the ground approximately 6 inches deep. From there, you will lay 3 inches of scalping or brick rubble that will act as sound foundation. Once laying this, you can remove the pegs and string.

The next step is to cut and fit four timber rails to act as a frame for the concrete that will set on top of the foundation. Finally, it is time to lay the concrete. As with the foundation, you will lay approximately 3 inches of concrete to fill the entire 6 inches you dug up. You have your option of either purchasing bags of dry mixed concrete and adding water gradually or making a mixture of ballast, cement and water yourself.

It is important you lay the concrete evenly, spreading it to all areas of the outline. Then, cover the concrete with sheets or a tarp to allow it to dry naturally. If the weather is dry and warm, spray it with water lightly so it does not dry too quickly.

The next method you can use to build a garden shed base is a paving slab. For this method you will excavate the ground 2.5 inches deep and lay a mixture of one part cement and eight parts building sand 1.5 inches deep.

After leveling this mixture, you can then begin to lay paving slabs starting from a corner. You will want to tap the slabs down with a rubber mallet to ensure the top of the slabs is higher than the surrounding ground.

The last method you can use to construct a base for your garden shed is the timber bearers method. For this method, you will excavate the ground 2 inches deep and lay 1.5 inches of gravel or soil. You will equally space concrete or timber bearers approximately 16 to 24 inches apart. If it is necessary, you can use a rubber mallet to tap the timber bearers down.

How much supplies you need for each method will all depend on the size of your shed. It is vital you have a plan drawn up for how you will construct the garden shed base, how big the base will be, and what kind of shed you are going to purchase. From there, simply follow the instructions for one of these three methods and you will be on your way.
