Ordering Guide
We always recommend following the spillage guidelines of ordering an additional 10% of paving to account for any offcuts and breakages that may happen in transit or throughout the installation. In most cases the chipped or damaged tiles are not totally unusable as they can be used for cuts throughout the project.

Installation Guidelines

Sandstone Installation Guide

Installing outdoor sandstone can be a beautiful and durable addition to your outdoor space.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to install outdoor sandstone:

1) Planning: Start by planning the area where you want to install the sandstone. Measure the area and mark it out with stakes and string. Consider the layout and design of the sandstone, considering any existing features or structures in your outdoor space.

2) Excavation: Excavate the area to a depth of at least 6 inches. Remove any grass, plants, or debris from the area. Ensure that the excavation is level and compacted.

3) Base Preparation: Lay a geotextile fabric over the excavated area to prevent weed growth and stabilize the base. Add a layer of crushed stone or gravel to create a stable base. Compact the base using a plate compactor to ensure it is level and solid.

4) After the subbase is compacted, use a wet bed of mortar 6:1 ratio and ensure you achieve 35 to 50mm laying course of mortar mix. All natural stone should be laid on a full-contact bed of mortar that supports the whole flagstone. Use of a priming slurry should be applied to the underside of the paving stones to help improve adhesion (spot bedding on any paving stone is not recommended). Ensure all cement stains are washed off immediately or this would result in staining the slabs.

5) Paving stones should be carefully laid on top of the mortar mix, tap into place using rubber mallet. Place the next flag with an adequate joint and continue with appropriate laying guide. After completion of laying the flagstones, curing time should be allowed for 24 hours.

6) Cutting and Shaping: If necessary, use a diamond blade saw or chisel to cut or shape the sandstone to fit the desired layout and design. Take care to wear appropriate safety equipment when cutting or shaping the stone.

7) Jointing: Once all the sandstone is in place, fill the gaps between the stones with jointing material such as sand or mortar. Use a brush or trowel to fill the joints, ensuring that they are completely filled and compacted.

8) Sealing: After the jointing material has dried, apply a stone sealer to the sandstone to protect it from stains and weathering. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for application and drying times.

9) Finishing Touches: Clean any excess jointing material or debris from the sandstone using a brush or hose. Trim any overhanging vegetation or grass around the edges of the sandstone.

Apply a sealer (optional): Regularly sweep and clean the sandstone to prevent the buildup of dirt and debris. We recommend applying a sandstone sealer after installation like our premium 2 in 1 EASYSeal Sandstone Sealer & Enhancer; and every few years after installation to maintain its protection and desired look.
